Betty's Song

She talks of streets forgotten.
Walks in lonesome company
On a warm summer evening
in the bliss of memory.

The darkness - her companion
Sounds of wind and rustling leaves.
The smoky dust filled alley -
gives fragrance to the air she breathes.

Her thoughts are turned towards night.
Darkness - a refuge from the pain.
Time slips through her hands
like sand runs through her veins.

The streetlights dimly flicker
As her soul dies away.
Life is a cancer growing inside of her
suffocating out the day.

And when first light is breaking.
The night can no longer stay.
She'll sing her song of redemption,
until the stars all fade away.

She dreams of streets forgotten
Sleeps wrapped in sweet melodies.
On a warm summer evening
in the bliss of memory.

And when the morning breaks
and night has turned to dawn.
The dreamers and the poets -
they'll all hear Betty's song.

OCEAN EYES

Never thought
never knew
swimming in this sea of blue.
Gaze of lies
the ocean cries
Turn the tide of our lives.

Went down to the misty shore.
Sun's eyes staring through the door
Morning breaks
Night can't stay
the ocean can't wash
our love away.
Our love away.

No one to wash away
the tears love cries
ocean eyes.
No one to wash away
all the lies
ocean eyes.

Stare into the depts so deep.
Lovers laugh, and lovers weep.
Don't cry now - take my hand.
Walk amongst the devils in the sand.

Thoughts swim round
inside my head.
Had we said on for bliss
we might have been dead.
Now our light may be gone, but -
It'll come back another day.
The ocean can't wash
our love away.
Our love away.

No one to wash away
the tears love cries
ocean eyes.
No one to wash away
all the lies
ocean eyes.

Turn the tide of our lives
turn the tide of our lives
turn the tide of our lives
ocean eyes
ocean eyes
ocean eyes

Never thought.
Never knew.
You cast love out -
love comes back to you.

SUN

Awaken me.
All that I seem to be.
Caught in my sky.
Reflections in your eye.

By light of day.
I often go astray.
Waiting for you
to come show me...the way.

Spend my day
staring into the sun.
I get burned
the closer I get to you -
but I can't look away,
and I wouldn't have it any other way.

And they told me
to never look straight at the sun.
Told me I'd lose myself in the light
of the fallen one.
(But I'm already blinded.)
So I'll wait for you
to come down out of your sky.
Love that breathes no more
can no longer die.

Burn myself into your eyes.
(You'll never burn me with your lies.)
Stay there hidden in my skies.
For just one more trip around this sun.

And I knew it all along.
That I didn't have to stand in your shadow
to see myself.
In stillness of dawn,
Woke up and you were...gone.

Spend my day
staring into the sun.
I get burned the closer I get to you -
but I can't look away.
And I wouldn't have it any other way.
Any other way.
Not today.

THIS TOWN

Staring out of the shadows
into the long lost depths of time.
Searching for a reason
waiting for your soul to find mine.

Tonight I found you
in this hotel where memory resides.
You were locked away in the shadows
never meant to be by my side.
And I should have left you there
closed the door and turned the key,
instead of sitting here alone tonight
wondering why you won't let me be.

I'll leave this town.
Pick my feet up off the ground.
Take my heart and fly away from misery.
I'll run into the sun
to a time when we had just begun
to a place I can no longer see.
Before I mistook you for someone else.
Who I wanted you to be.

Strangers in a room.
Staring down the shadows in our minds.
Didn't expect to see you here again.
In this place that only memory finds.
Where the words were on the walls
but we read between the lines.
Tonight I'm packing up my bags
and moving on to better times.

I'll leave this town.
Pick my feet up off the ground.
Take my heart and fly away from misery.
I'll run into the sun.
To a time when we had just begun.
To a place I can no longer see.
Before I mistook you for someone else
Who I wanted you to be.

We can't stay here forever.
We'll run out of air to breathe.
I'm closing the door on your memory.
The photos on these walls deceive.

So I'll leave this town.
Pick my feet up off the ground.
Take my heart and fly away from misery.
I'll run into the sun.
To a time when we had just begun.
To a place I can no longer see.
Before I mistook you for someone else.

Who I wanted you to be.
